What Can a Gum Dispenser Tell Us about Office Socialization?
This is a story about instrumenting a gum dispenser to learn about behavior over time within an office environment, particularly behavior related to gum-taking and co-worker socialization as a result of shared gum taking moments. The scope of our work did not include generating findings or interpreting the data, so that aspect of the project is not presented here. This document describes our approach, device development, data extraction techniques, and base data analysis results.
